Where has the money gone?

From Suara Karya

I am one of hundreds of thousands of Indonesian workers in
Malaysia, who have worked legally in Negeri Selangor Darul Ehsan
since 1992.

I have saved my hard earned money for future use and my ailing
parents. On Sept. 1, 1992 I sent RM 600 (about Rp 480,000) to my
father Abdul Majid, Buluh Naman village, Munte District, Karo
Regency, North Sumatra (His identity card No I.00612/1756/008
/TK/90). I sent the money through Bank Bumi Putera Malaysia
Berhad, which then transferred it to BNI 46 in Medan, North
Sumatra. Then a bank draft bearing the number 979670 was sent via
the post office.

Unfortunately, the staff of the Post and Giro did not deliver
the bank draft to my father. They falsified my father's identity
card and with it succeeded in withdrawing the money. I reported
the case to the police office in North Sumatra, but they could do
nothing because the money had supposedly been delivered.

In the meantime on Jan. 23, 1994 the Indonesian Government in
cooperation with the Malaysian Post Office established a workers'
station aimed at facilitating communication between Indonesian
workers in Malaysia and their families in Indonesia, including
the facility of sending money orders. To check the effectiveness
of the new system I sent money to my nephew in on Aug. 17, 1994.
This money too did not reach the addressee after almost two
months.

Again I reported the case to the Central Post Office in Kuala
Lumpur. Finally on Oct. 31, 1994, I was told by the post office
in Medan that the money had been received.

I was disappointed with the answer because I know for sure
that the money has not been received.
