Where Can STNK Renewal Without the Previous Owner's ID Be Extended?
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The policy for renewing STNK without the previous owner’s ID is not yet applicable nationwide. However, one region has already implemented it ahead of others, namely West Java.
The Director of Registration and Identification (Dirregident) of the National Police Traffic Corps, Brigadier General Wibowo, stated that this policy is temporarily applied only in West Java, although similar issues occur in other regions as well.
“For now, only West Java, but these problems also arise in several areas, and I have already noted them. I will convey this at the coordination meeting next week,” Wibowo told Kompas.com (14/4/2026).
Interestingly, this policy applies not only to areas under the West Java Regional Police jurisdiction but also to West Java’s administrative regions that fall under the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police, such as Bekasi and Depok.
“However, in terms of legal jurisdiction, the motor vehicle registration and identification process falls under the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, not West Java,” he said.
Thus, residents in Bekasi City, Bekasi Regency, and Depok City can still take advantage of this facility, even though they are under the Jakarta Metropolitan Police system in terms of police administration.
