Prediction by BRIN Researcher: Eid al-Adha 2026 to be Celebrated Simultaneously
Eid al-Adha 2026 in Indonesia is predicted to be celebrated simultaneously on the same day. The prediction for Eid al-Adha 2026 is May 27.
A researcher from the Center for Space Research at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Thomas Djamaluddin, predicts that Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri has the potential to fall on May 27, 2026. Thomas said that this year’s Eid al-Adha has a high potential to take place simultaneously.
“Hopefully, Eid al-Adha 1447 H will be uniform,” said Thomas to reporters on Wednesday (May 13, 2026).
Thomas explained that on May 17, 2026, the position of the hilal at sunset will be high enough throughout Indonesia and almost the entire world. Thomas said that, based on astronomical calculations, the criteria for determining the beginning of Zulhijah, whether for Muhammadiyah, the government, or Saudi Arabia, are predicted to be the same.
“Therefore, KHGT (Muhammadiyah) is the same as Ummul Quro (Saudi Arabia) and MABIMS (Government), the beginning of Zulhijah 1447 is the same as May 18, 2026, and Eid al-Adha is May 27, 2026,” he said.
Even so, Thomas said that the certainty of the determination of Eid al-Adha still depends on the results of the government’s determination session. It is known that the determination session will be held on Sunday (May 17).
“The certainty, we will wait for the government’s decision after the determination session,” he said.
However, Thomas assessed that the possibility of a date change is very small. According to his prediction, Eid al-Adha will fall on May 27, 2026.
“Most likely, it will not change,” he said.
