When Will the 12-Car KRL Operate on the Green Line? Here's What KAI Commuter Says

PT KAI Commuter (KAIC) is endeavouring to have the 12-car electric train (KRL SF 12) operate on the Tanah Abang-Rangkasbitung line or green line. Corporate Secretary Vice President of KAI Commuter, Karina Amanda, stated that the KRL SF 12 is being targeted for realisation in 2027. She added that the infrastructure improvements on the green line are still in the study phase. “Currently, the development of the green line infrastructure is in the study position. And this has entered the final stage,” said Karina when providing information at Juanda Station, Central Jakarta, on Monday (20/4/2026). With the infrastructure improvements on that line, the KRL SF 12 can then operate. “Of course, it will be endeavoured to be realised (the addition of KRL in 2027). Because there are several programmes to improve KRL infrastructure in Jabodetabek,” she continued. The finalised study means there is already a formulation of which infrastructure programmes will be realised first. The green line route and Jakarta Kota-Bogor are currently receiving special attention, given the high density levels on both lines. When asked which infrastructure development for the green line route or the Jakarta Kota-Bogor route will be prioritised, Karina said it is still being discussed together between the government, PT KAI, and KCI. KCI has provided data on the needs of each route to the government and PT KAI. “We have provided support from the side of identifying the needs of each service line to the infrastructure provider as well as to the government,” she explained.
