When Will Taufik Hidayat Stand Trial? Latest on the YTR False Imprisonment Case

The case of the alleged false imprisonment and assault of a 29-year-old woman identified as YTR, which has implicated Taufik Hidayat, continues to draw public attention. Many are now questioning when Taufik Hidayat will stand trial, as the legal process remains in the investigation stage. Recent developments indicate that law enforcement officials are beginning to prepare for the trial phase, although no court date has yet been set. The West Java Regional Police are still completing the investigation, while the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office has formed a special team to handle the case. Separately, the Judicial Commission has also confirmed it will monitor proceedings once the case is heard at the Bandung District Court. To date, Taufik Hidayat has not been tried because the case is still under investigation by the West Java Regional Police. Once the investigation is declared complete, or P-21, investigators will transfer the suspect and evidence to the public prosecutor. The prosecutor will then prepare the indictment and transfer the case to the Bandung District Court for a trial date to be scheduled. This means the trial schedule will only be set after all investigation stages are complete and the case file is declared complete by the prosecution. In preparation for the prosecution process, the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office has formed a special team comprising nine prosecutors. The Head of Legal Information at the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office, Nur Sricahyawijaya, stated that this step was taken after her office received a Notice of Commencement of Investigation from the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the West Java Regional Police. The team of prosecutors will oversee the case from the investigation stage until the file is declared complete, followed by the transfer process to the court. Based on the initial investigation, the suspect allegedly committed false imprisonment and assault against the victim starting in 2024 at four different locations. As a result of the alleged criminal acts, the victim suffered severe injuries to several parts of her body and is still undergoing intensive care at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung.
