When Will BYD's Subang Electric Vehicle Factory Begin Operations?
JAKARTA — Construction of BYD’s factory in Indonesia is nearing completion. The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer revealed that its manufacturing facility in Subang, West Java, has entered the final phase before full-scale operations commence.
This news is a significant signal for the national automotive industry, as BYD’s Indonesian plant is poised to become one of the largest electric vehicle production facilities in Southeast Asia.
“Indeed, as I have mentioned before, this is in the final stage,” said Luther in Jakarta.
According to Luther, units for showroom displays, test drives, and testing requirements have already been produced at the facility.
“We can see that several vehicles, particularly for displays, test drives, and testing purposes, have all been manufactured at the facility,” Luther added.
“However, there are still a few matters to finalise, so we have not officially declared full production yet. It may not be long, and we will soon announce it,” he said.
The statement suggests that the official announcement of the factory’s full operation is merely a matter of time.
Designed with a production capacity of up to 150,000 vehicles per year, the plant ranks among the largest EV production facilities in Southeast Asia.
The facility also reflects BYD’s commitment to strengthening long-term investment in Indonesia while supporting the development of the national electric vehicle ecosystem.
In the premium segment, BYD has introduced the Denza D9, while the BYD M6 DM is the first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model being sold in Indonesia.
If the Subang factory commences operations soon, Indonesia could become a key production hub for BYD in the region, serving both domestic market needs and exports to other countries.
