When War Subsides, Green Energy Consistency Must Be Safeguarded

National Energy Council (DEN) member for the 2026-2030 period, Mohamad Fadhil Hasan, has cautioned that consistency in implementing the energy transition programme is a major challenge, particularly as global geopolitical conflicts begin to subside. According to him, the acceleration of new and renewable energy development must not stop simply because the pressure from war has diminished. “Therefore, I think we must encourage all parties to remain consistent in carrying out this energy transition programme, even when conditions return to normal. Because even when things are normal, uncertainty will still be very high going forward,” he said at the CNBC Indonesia Energy Forum in Jakarta, quoted on Wednesday (1/7/2026). He cited the view of American geopolitical analyst Ian Bremmer, who stated that the only positive impact of the war in the Middle East is that various countries are accelerating their energy transition programmes. “So according to Ian Bremmer, the American geopolitical analyst, the only positive thing to come out of the war in the Middle East is that all countries are now accelerating their new and renewable energy programmes,” he said. According to him, Indonesia must also seize this momentum by accelerating the diversification of national energy sources so as not to be overly dependent on a single type of energy. “Is this momentum to accelerate NRE? It is momentum to accelerate the NRE programme,” he stated. Fadhil revealed that the government has prepared a number of strategic programmes to support the acceleration of the energy transition. These include the construction of a 100 gigawatt (GW) solar power plant, a programme to convert up to 120 million motorcycles into electric vehicles, and the implementation of the B50 biodiesel mandate.
