The Pentagon described the step as considering operational needs and field conditions. “This decision follows a thorough review of the Department’s force posture in Europe and recognises theatre needs and field conditions. We anticipate the withdrawal to be completed within the next six to twelve months,” Parnell said. Trump Signals Larger Reduction US President Donald Trump subsequently signalled that the number of troops to be withdrawn could be larger than announced by the Pentagon.
