When the Mothers of the Sea Dragon Crew Member and the Lombok Murderer Prostrated Themselves Before Habiburokhman...
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Two mothers of defendants in different cases prostrated themselves before the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman, after a public hearing at the Parliament Building on Thursday, 26 February 2026.
They were Makkiyati, mother of Radiet Ardiansyah, the defendant in the case of the death of a female student on Nipah Beach, North Lombok.
There was also Nirwana, mother of Fandi Ramadhan, a Sea Dragon crew member who was sentenced to death in the drug smuggling case.
At that moment, Makkiyati and Nirwana immediately prostrated themselves while crying.
“Sir… Sir… Sir… please help… my son, Sir,” they said while kissing Habiburokhman’s hand in the Meeting Room of Commission III of the DPR RI, Thursday.
Seeing this, Habiburokhman repeatedly asked them to calm down and not prostrate themselves before him.
“Yes, yes. Be patient, Ma’am. Don’t do this, Ma’am,” he said while holding back Nirwana’s body, which was about to prostrate.
“Sir, please help me, Sir. I am not guilty, Sir. Please, Sir,” said Makkiyati.
Habiburokhman tried to calm them both by saying that the legal process was still ongoing.
“Yes, this process still has a long way to go. Be patient. Let’s pray to Allah,” he said.
The public hearing was held by Commission III of the DPR RI to listen to complaints from the families of the defendants regarding the legal process, which they considered unfair.
In the case of the death of Ni Made Vaniradya Puspa Nitra, a student at the University of Mataram, on Nipah Beach, the family of Radiet, who were accompanied by Hotman, argued that the prosecutor’s indictment did not have a strong basis for evidence.
“We have provided a summary specifically about the murder in Lombok. So, the essence of the case is that it is not acceptable from a legal point of view,” said Hotman.
