JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has been returned to detention at the detention centre after previously being temporarily transferred to house arrest. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has been processing this transfer since Monday (23/3/2026). “Today, Monday 23 March 2026, the KPK is carrying out the process of changing the type of detention for Suspect Sdr. YCQ in the alleged criminal corruption case regarding Hajj quotas, from house arrest back to KPK detention,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in his statement on Monday evening. Budi explained that there is a health examination stage that must be conducted first. “For now, the health examination by the doctor is still ongoing at Bhayangkara Hospital TK. I.R. Said Sukanto, East Jakarta,” Budi continued. Yaqut was officially detained by the KPK on Thursday (12/3/2026). One week later, on Thursday (19/3/2026), Yaqut was transferred to house arrest at his family’s request. The announcement of this change in detention status was made by the KPK on Saturday (21/3/2026), coinciding with Eid al-Fitr 1447 H. News that Yaqut was no longer at the detention centre was first leaked by Silvia, the wife of former Deputy Manpower Minister Immanuel Ebenezer alias Noel. At that time, Silvia, who had just visited her husband, recounted that Yaqut was no longer at the detention centre on Thursday. This was confirmed by the KPK on Saturday evening.
