When Saiful Mujani Speaks of "Toppling" Prabowo

Founder of Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC), Saiful Mujani, has become a topic of discussion due to his statements regarding President Prabowo Subianto. At a halal bihalal event titled “Before Analysts Are Silenced”, Saiful stated that the way to save Indonesia is by toppling President Prabowo Subianto.

The event was held at Beranda Utan Kayu on Tuesday, 31 March 2026. It was organised as a space for maintaining ties and a discussion forum for analysts from various backgrounds. In addition to Saiful Mujani, the event was attended by Feri Amsari, Islah Bahrawi, and Ubedilah Badrun.

Saiful was the closing speaker at the forum. At that time, Saiful described President Prabowo as not presidential. According to him, Prabowo is no longer receptive to suggestions for improvement.

“If advising Prabowo doesn’t work either. The only way is to topple him. That is saving, not saving Prabowo, but saving ourselves and this nation,” Saiful said.

According to Saiful, this method of “toppling” Prabowo cannot be done through formal procedures such as impeachment via the People’s Consultative Assembly on the proposal of the House of Representatives. For him, the only way is for society to consolidate itself to topple Prabowo. “In my view, the alternative is not through formal impeachment procedures like that. That won’t happen,” Saiful said.

Saiful’s statement then went viral on social media after Ulta Levenia, Senior Special Adviser to the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), reposted a video clip of it. Via her Instagram account @leveenia, Ulta referred to Saiful as a “provocateur dressed as an academic”.

She also called on the public to protect Indonesia from what she described as structured treason. “This is so scary, the provocation is extraordinary, this can be called treason,” Ulta wrote in the caption of her post.
