When Prabowo Grows Angry Over False Reports and Questions Strange State Enterprise Rules
Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto has warned his officials against submitting false reports merely to please him.
In addition, Prabowo expressed bewilderment upon learning of a regulation stipulating that subsidiary companies of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) cannot be audited.
He made these remarks while attending the first anniversary commemoration of Danantara at Wisma Danantara in Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
Nevertheless, Prabowo remained satisfied with Danantara’s performance, particularly noting that foreigners were impressed by the competent individual managing the organisation.
Prabowo issued a firm warning to his officials against providing him with false reports. He demanded that reports submitted to him be accurate and reflect actual ground conditions.
“Do not play games with me with false reports, pleasant reports, reports designed to create deceptions. I am giving this a stern warning,” Prabowo said.
The reports in question concerned the return on assets (RoA) of the Investment Management Board, which had increased by 300 per cent compared to the previous year.
He expressed hope that the reported figures were accurate and reminded his officials that they must not submit false reports simply to gratify their superior.
“I have received a report — I hope this report is truthful,” Prabowo said.
Subsequently, Prabowo expressed surprise at the existence of a regulation that prohibits audits of subsidiary companies of state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
According to him, the regulation is peculiar, particularly given that the parent company, which is typically a state-owned enterprise, must be audited.
