When Plastic Waste Is Transformed into Diesel Fuel
At KSM Pilah Berkah in Imogiri, Bantul, piles of plastic waste are no longer seen merely as rubbish. Through pyrolysis technology developed in collaboration with the Bantul Regency Government, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), and the Pertamina Foundation, used plastic is processed into an alternative fuel that provides new value for both the environment and the community. The pyrolysis machine is capable of converting approximately 50 kilogrammes of plastic waste into around 48 litres of alternative diesel fuel, known as Petasol, every day. Behind the waste sorting activities, workers play a role in reducing plastic pollution and supporting a more sustainable energy transition. Each piece of plastic successfully processed not only reduces the environmental burden but also brings hope that waste can become part of the future energy solution.
