When is Lebaran 2026? Here is the Official Government Schedule
The government has determined that Eid al-Fitr 2026 will fall on Saturday, 21 March 2026. This is based on the sidang isbat session for determining 1 Syawal 1447 H, held by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag).
“It was agreed that 1 Syawal 1447 H falls on Saturday, 21 March 2026,” said Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar during a press conference on the results of the 2026 Lebaran sidang isbat, on Thursday (19/3/2026).
Government’s Lebaran 2026 Differs from Muhammadiyah
Eid al-Fitr 2026 or 1 Syawal 1447 H, according to the government, falls on Saturday, 21 March 2026. This schedule differs from Muhammadiyah, which through the Central Leadership’s Decree Number 2/MLM/I.0/E/2025 on the Determination of Calculations for Ramadan, Syawal, and Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah, sets Lebaran 2026 on Friday, 20 March 2026.
Mechanism of the Sidang Isbat Implementation
As reported by Antara on Thursday (19/3/2026), the sidang isbat is an official forum organised by the Indonesian government to determine the start of months in the Hijriah calendar, namely the beginning of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha. This session aims to provide certainty for Muslims in carrying out worship, in accordance with syariat provisions.
The sidang isbat mechanism begins with the presentation of the crescent moon’s position by the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Hijriah Calendar Unification Team, based on astronomical calculations (hisab).
At the same time, experts conduct direct crescent moon observations at hundreds of points across Indonesia, such as 117 locations for Syawal 1447 H, and the results are collected from field officers.
Next, the Minister of Religious Affairs leads a closed session attended by representatives of Islamic mass organisations, ambassadors from friendly countries, and related institutions, such as BMKG, BRIN, and astronomy experts. In this session, the decision is made by considering hisab data and rukyat reports from the field.
The results of the sidang isbat are then officially announced to the public through a press conference broadcast live by media and the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ official social media channels.
