When is Eid al-Adha 2026? The holiday schedule and accompanying leave
The government has officially set Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah, or Idul Adha 2026, to fall on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. This determination also opens up the possibility of a long holiday weekend as it coincides with the upcoming collective leave and weekends.
The information has drawn public attention as people begin planning holidays, homebound travel (mudik), and family activities for late May 2026.
In addition to being one of Islam’s major religious occasions, the Idul Adha moment this year also has the potential to create a long weekend if people take additional leave on certain working days.
The government set 1 Zulhijjah 1447 H to fall on Monday, 18 May 2026. Accordingly, Idul Adha or Eid al-Adha 2026 will be celebrated on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.
The Isbat session was chaired directly by the Minister of Religious Affairs and attended by representatives of Muslim community organisations, the House of Representatives Commission VIII, BMKG, BRIN, astronomy experts, and several related agencies.
The determination was based on the results of hisab and rukyatul hilal monitored at 88 points across Indonesia.
The hilal (new crescent) was also reported to have been seen by two observers in Lamongan Regency, East Java, and has been sworn in by the local religious court judge.
‘Thus, based on the results of hisab and the report of rukyatul hilal that meets the criteria, the Isbat session, by unanimous decision, determined that 1 Zulhijjah 1447 Hijriah falls on Monday, 18 May 2026 CE,’ said the Minister of Religious Affairs.
