On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, the government through the Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) is again providing a free mudik programme for citizens. According to an official Instagram post from @kemenhub151, the 2026 free mudik initiative is not limited to ground transportation alone. Kemenhub is also providing train and ship services.

“The Ministry of Transport Free Mudik Programme returns this year! There are three free mudik programmes. First, Free Bus Mudik with 34 destination cities (Java and Sumatra), with a quota of 15,834 passengers and 240 motorcycles. Second, Train Motorcycle and Passenger Services available on three routes—the North Route, Central Route and South Route—with a quota of 11,900 motorcycles and 28,182 passengers. Third, Free Ship Tickets with a quota of 50,000 economy class passengers,” the post stated.

Given that the free mudik quotas available for each programme are limited, citizens should begin preparing now, including understanding the registration dates and mechanisms.

Registration for the 2026 free mudik programme from the Ministry of Transport will open from 1 March 2026 onwards, conducted online through the nusantara.kemenhub.go.id portal and will close once quotas are filled. The programme covers both outbound and return journeys.

According to the official website of the Directorate General of Land Transport (Hubdat) Kemenhub, registration for the 2026 free mudik programme will open starting 1 March 2026. In addition to providing mudik programmes to destination cities, Kemenhub is also offering return journey programmes to allow citizens to return to their home cities.

All registration for the 2026 free mudik can be conducted online, allowing citizens to participate in quota-chasing from anywhere and at any time according to the established schedule. The registration for this free mudik programme from Kemenhub will close once quotas are filled.

“Registration will open starting 1 March 2026 online through the nusantara.kemenhub.go.id portal. Registration will close when all quotas have been filled,” explained the Director General of Land Transport, Aan Suhanan, in his statement.

The 2026 free mudik programme offers 34 destination cities across five regions. In Sumatra, destinations include Aceh, Medan, Palembang, Lampung, Bengkulu and Padang. Central Java offers the most destinations with Semarang, Solo, Wonogiri, Purwokerto, Tegal, Pekalongan, Demak, Boyolali, Klaten, Pati, Blora, Cilacap, Wonosobo, Kebumen, Magelang, Jepara and Sragen. Registration for the 2026 free mudik can be done online. To register, participants should open the Mudik Gratis Kemenhub platform through the official portal and follow the registration steps, which typically involve creating an account, selecting routes and schedules, filling in participant data and completing verification.
