When Does the Eid Holiday Begin for Schoolchildren? Mark the Dates

Jakarta – With less than two weeks remaining until Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, the Indonesian government has released the holiday schedule for schoolchildren. According to the Joint Circular (SEB) from the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Minister of Religion, and Minister of Home Affairs Number 5 of 2026, Number 2 of 2026, and Number 400.1/857/SJ regarding Learning in the Month of Ramadan 1447 H/2026 CE, the Eid holiday will begin on Monday, 16 March 2026.

The Eid al-Fitr holiday for schoolchildren will last for 10 days: 16-20 March 2026 and 23-27 March 2026. According to the circular, these dates constitute collective Eid al-Fitr holidays for schools, madrasahs, early childhood education units, and religious education units.

Learning activities will resume on Monday, 30 March 2026. During the Eid holiday, students are encouraged to strengthen bonds with family and community to enhance brotherhood and national unity.

The government has issued guidance for parents to support children’s learning at home during the break. Parents are asked to foster and accompany their children in positive activities through the Seven Habits of Excellent Indonesian Children, including religious practice and study, reading books and other materials together, logic games that encourage cooperation and creativity, and arts, sports, and cultural activities aligned with the child’s interests.

Additionally, parents are instructed to implement device and internet usage policies by establishing reasonable and mutually agreed screen time limits, accompanying children when accessing the internet and social media, and directing them towards beneficial content whilst protecting them from material containing violence, pornography, gambling, bullying, and misinformation.
