JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Content creator who often highlights Jakarta’s public facilities, Ijoel, was invited to meet directly with the Deputy Governor (Wagub) of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

The two-hour meeting at the DKI Jakarta City Hall became an opportunity for Ijoel to candidly convey various residents’ complaints directly.

Ijoel recounted that initially, he was contacted by one of the Deputy Governor’s staff to meet in person to express his aspirations.

During the meeting, Rano Karno admitted that he himself had asked his staff to find Ijoel after watching his video repairing a road.

“Bang Doel said he felt very helped. Because Bang Doel feels like he only has two hands and two eyes. With Ijoel, Bang Doel said he feels like he has many eyes and many hands,” Ijoel told Kompas.com by telephone on Friday (10/4/2026).

In that moment, Ijoel highlighted the slow government service system at the grassroots level, which often involves passing the buck. He gave an example from his own repeated experiences of being redirected to other agencies when reporting issues.

“First, the response from government offices in Jakarta is still slow and sometimes they play pass-the-parcel. For example, I go to the kelurahan office, then to PTSP. Even though PTSP is a one-stop service, it’s passed on again, saying ‘now this must go through JAKI’, which is odd,” explained Ijoel.

This becomes a problem because many middle- to lower-class residents do not understand the JAKI app or do not have adequate smartphones.

Bureaucracy is also seen as discriminatory because residents’ reports are often not well responded to if the issue is not viral or if they have few social media followers.

Therefore, he asked regional apparatus, at least at the kelurahan level, to be more proactive in taking the initiative to absorb residents’ complaints.

Officials are said to often just patch roads without finding out the cause of the damage.

“If, for example, repairing damaged roads, they should first find out what the cause is. Don’t come and immediately repair it, then leave,” said Ijoel.

In addition, Ijoel also highlighted the poor quality of asphalt, which differs between repairs done by vendors and those done directly by the department.
