When Amien Rais is Ready to Be Prosecuted Over His Video About Prabowo and Teddy
Chairman of the Majelis Syura of Partai Ummat, Amien Rais, has spoken out about his video that alluded to the closeness between President Prabowo and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, which was labelled as slander by Communications and Digital Minister (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid. Amien even claimed he is ready to be prosecuted in court for proof.
“I was informed by legal experts that Komdigi has no authority. So the one with authority is Teddy himself, and that will be taken to court. And in court, I am very confident: show it! I will ask several specialist doctors whether he is gay or not. That’s all, then we can chat again,” said Amien when met after the Partai Ummat National Congress in Sleman on Saturday night (2/5/2026).
Amien Rais also emphasised that the one entitled to prosecute him is Cabinet Secretary Teddy, not Komdigi. He then alluded to the freedom to express opinions guaranteed by the state.
“Well, so I am like this. First, I am certainly confident that democracy runs well if the freedom to express opinions guaranteed by our constitution is not restricted or suppressed,” Amien stated.
“Well, then, in a democratic country, people are allowed to have opinions. Contradicting the official ruler, contradicting other groups of the people and so on. But what, the point of conflict, the point of difference, is that it concerns the fate of the nation,” he continued.
Not only that, Amien Rais also gave scathing comments about Teddy’s figure. He said Teddy has been given a lot of power in the government.
“Well, regarding Teddy, indeed I gathered from various information, from YouTube as well as print media, and various channels on social media, I think it is almost convincing that there is something very unusual about our brother Teddy. There is something that should not be given too much power portion,” said Amien.
He then alluded to his closeness with President Prabowo. Amien recalled the times he often stayed at Prabowo’s residence in both Hambalang and Kertanegara.
“I see that I have known Mr Prabowo for 10 years. I often stayed in Hambalang, I often stayed in Kertanegara, until late at night I just went home and so on, having coffee together. So for Mr Prabowo, in my opinion, back then, there was not a single thread indicating that he was like Teddy Indra Wijaya,” he said.
Amien Rais’s Statement Labelled as Slander
For information, Amien Rais made a statement on his YouTube channel questioning the closeness between Prabowo and Teddy. The video was titled “KEEP THE PALACE AWAY FROM MORAL SCANDALS” with a duration of about 8 minutes. However, as of 12:18 WIB, the video was no longer available.
Previously, Communications and Digital Minister (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid spoke about the video uploaded by Amien Rais on his YouTube channel regarding the closeness of President Prabowo Subianto with Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Meutya called the video character assassination.
“The Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi) has identified the spread of a video containing slanderous narratives, character assassination, and personal attacks directed at the President of the Republic of Indonesia. The video was uploaded by the Chairman of the Majelis Syura of Partai Ummat,” Meutya said in an Instagram post @kemkomdigi on Saturday (2/5), quoted from detikNews.
Meutya said Amien Rais’s statement contains hate speech. She assessed that his statement has the potential to divide the nation.
“Komdigi emphasises that the content of the video is hoaxes, slander, and contains hate speech. The narrative built is an attempt to demean the dignity of the Highest Leader of the State, lacks factual basis, and is part of provocation efforts to create public unrest. This has the potential to divide the nation,” she said.
Meutya stated that Komdigi will take steps in accordance with applicable laws. Anyone who creates and participates in distributing and/or transmitting the video knowingly, she said, has committed a legal violation as regulated in the ITE Law Number 1 of 2024 Article 27A and Article 28 (2).
