The Suling Indah Hotel in Pucung, Girisubo, Gunungkidul, has been closed because it was deemed to violate the Yogyakarta Special Region Governor’s Regulation (Pergub) on the utilisation of communal land. Here is the explanation from the Gunungkidul Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP).

The hotel closure was carried out by the Yogyakarta Special Region Land and Spatial Planning Agency (Dispertaru DIY) and Panitikismo, accompanied by the Gunungkidul Satpol PP.

The Head of the Regional Regulation Enforcement Division of Gunungkidul Satpol PP, Sumarno, stated that the hotel closure took place on Monday (4/5) afternoon.

“This is a follow-up from the monitoring and supervision by Dispertaru DIY and Panitikismo, where one of the findings was the utilisation of communal land that did not match its designated purpose, specifically in Pucung Kalurahan, Girisubo,” he told reporters in Wonosari, Gunungkidul, on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Satpol PP acted as the on-site executor by visiting the location in question. Given that the authority over the utilisation of communal land with Sultan Ground (SG) status lies with Dispertaru DIY and Panitikismo.

“So, there is communal land on which a building in the form of a hotel has been constructed and is being utilised as a hotel. That’s why yesterday, from Dispertaru DIY to Panitikismo, they were present there, and Satpol PP was asked to attend to witness and accompany the closure of the Suling Indah Hotel,” Sumarno explained.

He clarified that the basis for the hotel closure is Pergub No. 24 of 2024 on the Utilisation of Communal Land. This regulation stipulates that communal land must not have buildings erected for hotels, housing, guest houses, or similar purposes.

“And it will indeed be closed permanently if the utilisation remains as such,” Sumarno said.

When asked about the possibility of closing other buildings that do not comply with the communal land utilisation rules, Sumarno stated that the authority on that matter rests with Dispertaru DIY and Panitikismo.

“Monitoring and supervision will be conducted continuously. That means the monitoring and supervision are not just from yesterday or at one location only. As it is a regulation, it will be applied to anyone, and if similar violations are found, they will be treated the same,” Sumarno emphasised.
