Wheel Repair After Hitting a Pothole? What Does a Specialist Workshop Say?
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Wheel servicing is usually carried out when the wheels feel like they are vibrating or when they are found to be bent after hitting a pothole.
Many car owners then ask whether wheel balancing is necessary after wheel servicing. Runang from HWS Wheel, Car Part & Accessories in the H. Nawi area, South Jakarta, explained that wheel servicing and balancing are indeed related. “So, basically, wheel servicing is done when the rotation is no longer perfect. If the rotation is not perfect, it means there is a bend, or a part that is going up and down,” said Runang, to Kompas.com, in Jakarta, Tuesday (24/2/2026).
“That is what we straighten or restore as much as possible. If we say 100 percent perfect, it is impossible, but if it can be up to 99 percent, that can still be achieved,” he said.
According to Runang, this is where balancing plays a role. “Balancing is intended to perfect the rotation. So, every new wheel or new tyre, even when a new tyre is installed, it will definitely be balanced. Why? Because every new component is unlikely to be perfect right away,” he said.
“What perfects the rotation is the balancing process. So, if there are still minor imperfections, balancing will perfect it,” said Runang.
In simple terms, balancing is the process of balancing the weight distribution of the wheel, which consists of the rim and tyre, so that the rotation is stable when the car is moving.
The wheel will be rotated to detect the heavier part.
This process is important to eliminate vibrations in the steering wheel, make the car ride more comfortable, and also reduce excessive load on the suspension components.
