WhatsApp Web Video Calls Now Resemble Zoom, Here's How to Use Them

WhatsApp has officially expanded the capabilities of its video call feature on the web version (browser), now allowing users to make voice and video calls similar to Zoom without needing to download an additional application. “Now you can make and receive audio and video calls, both private and group, directly from WhatsApp Web. No need to download the app,” WhatsApp stated in an official post on its blog. This move makes WhatsApp Web more flexible, especially for users who frequently work on laptops or computers. Interestingly, video calls via the browser are still equipped with modern productivity features, such as screen sharing and giving real-time reactions during conversations. WhatsApp ensures all calls via the web are secured with end-to-end encryption. Users are also free to use them without time limits or additional costs. To enjoy the calling feature on WhatsApp Web, users simply need to open the web.whatsapp.com link in a computer or laptop browser, link their WhatsApp account using a QR code scan, select the contact or group they wish to call, and click the video/voice call icon. WhatsApp is also rolling out a host of other advanced supporting features to boost the video calling experience, including Call Transfer, which allows users to move an ongoing group call from one device to another without ending it first; a Waiting Room, giving the host full control to screen, allow, or reject participants wanting to join; QuickHD Video Quality, which automatically activates high-resolution video at the start of a call; and Noise Cancellation, a feature that blocks background noise so the user’s audio remains focused and clear even in a noisy environment.
