WhatsApp Web Video Calls Now Resemble Zoom, Here's How to Use Them
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - WhatsApp has once again introduced a new innovation to pamper its users. The Meta-owned messaging platform has officially expanded the capabilities of its video call feature on the web (browser) version, which now allows users to make voice and video calls in the style of Zoom without needing to download an additional application.
“You can now make and receive audio and video calls, both private and group calls, directly from WhatsApp Web. No need to download an app,” WhatsApp wrote in an official statement on its blog, quoted on Monday (3/8/2026).
This move makes WhatsApp Web increasingly flexible, especially for users who frequently work in front of a laptop or computer. Interestingly, video calls via the browser are still equipped with today’s productivity features, such as screen sharing and real-time reactions during conversations.
WhatsApp assures that all calls via the web are secured with end-to-end encryption. Users can also use the service without time limits or additional charges.
How to Use the Video Call Feature on WhatsApp Web
To enjoy the calling feature on WhatsApp Web, the steps required are very simple and similar to the app version:
Open the link web.whatsapp.com in your computer or laptop browser.
Link (log in to) your WhatsApp account by scanning a QR code.
Find and select the contact or group you wish to call.
Click the video/voice call icon. Alternatively, you can go to the Call tab, press Start Call, then select the intended contact.
A Flood of New Features in the Style of Video Conferencing Platforms
Beyond introducing calls via the browser, WhatsApp has also rolled out a series of advanced supporting features to enhance users’ video calling experience:
Call Transfer: Users can now move an ongoing group call from one device to another without having to end the call first. For example, transferring a call from a smartphone to WhatsApp Web to get a wider screen display.
Waiting Room: The host or initiator of a call has full control to screen, admit, or reject participants who wish to join the call room.
QuickHD Video Quality: High-resolution video quality is automatically activated at the start of a call for a clearer visual experience.
Noise Cancellation: This feature blocks background noise so users’ audio remains focused and clear even in noisy environments.
