WhatsApp Testing Feature to Compete with Telkomsel, Indosat, and XL

In the future, WhatsApp users may be able to connect with those who are not users of the platform. It has recently been reported that the company is developing a feature to conduct voice and video calls with people who do not possess an account.

Earlier this year, WhatsApp released a chat feature for communicating with individuals without WhatsApp accounts, achieved by sharing a specific link. This represents an evolution from the long-standing limitation where WhatsApp users could only connect with other WhatsApp users.

Reports regarding the testing of voice and video calls to non-users were highlighted by WABetaInfo. The mechanism is similar to the existing chat feature, where users simply create a call link for the person they wish to contact.

This link can be sent through any channel. The recipient or non-WhatsApp user simply needs to open the link in a browser to join the conversation, as reported by Yahoo.

Regarding privacy, WhatsApp is striving to maintain its security standards through encryption. WABetaInfo noted that the platform relies on temporary session identification from the browser to establish encryption keys.

This method serves as a way to maintain end-to-end encryption without permanently collecting user credentials.

WhatsApp also ensures that its users maintain full control over the feature. Having a link does not guarantee that a non-user can immediately access the call; WhatsApp users must manually approve the other party to connect. Additionally, the call organiser can remove disruptive guests or end the call immediately.

So far, it is reported that the feature is still in the development stage and is not yet available in the beta version. It remains unknown whether this feature will be officially launched in the future.
