WhatsApp Reportedly Developing Automatic Message Translation Feature for iOS
Jakarta (ANTARA) - WhatsApp is reportedly developing a feature that can automatically translate messages in chats and groups to facilitate communication with people using different languages. WABetaInfo previously stated that the WhatsApp update for iOS 25.28.74 includes a feature for translating messages, allowing users to select a message or channel update and view its translation. Users can choose to translate messages into 20 other languages, and these translations maintain end-to-end encryption, relying on Apple’s API to process messages locally. According to WABetaInfo’s broadcast on Friday (20/3), WhatsApp is now working to simplify this message translation feature. Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta update for iOS 26.11.10.70, available on the TestFlight app, WABetaInfo found that WhatsApp is developing a feature that automatically translates messages into 21 different languages. The feature, designed for automatic message translation, is still under development and scheduled for release in a future update. Currently, WhatsApp users must select a message and choose the “Translate” option to view its translation. This feature gives users control over which messages they want to translate, but it can present complications if users wish to translate multiple messages. WhatsApp is addressing this issue by developing the automatic translation feature. Users also need to select from which language to which language the app should translate messages. Since messages are processed locally to maintain end-to-end encryption, users must download language packs, enabling instant translation without relying on an internet connection. This feature can keep messages and conversations private because they do not need to be sent to third parties for translation. Once users enable automatic translation, WhatsApp will display translations automatically when messages are received in the selected chat. This means users no longer need to manually select messages to view their translations. However, users can still view the original message and remove the translation by accessing its information from the context menu. WhatsApp will offer automatic translation in both private chats and groups. However, users should note that automatic translation in groups will only work if all participants send messages in the same language. If a group member sends a message in a different language, the app will not translate it, even if that language is supported by Apple.
