WhatsApp Prepares Dedicated Meta AI Tab for Enhanced AI Feature Access
WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature called Meta AI Tab, a dedicated menu that will enable users to access various artificial intelligence-powered tools directly from the application. The feature is currently being tested in the WhatsApp beta version for Android, specifically in version 2.26.10.5. The arrival of this new tab represents Meta Platforms’ effort to make AI technology a fundamental part of the WhatsApp user experience.
According to India Herald, in the latest update, WhatsApp has added the Meta AI Tab to the application’s bottom navigation bar, positioned just below the chat list. The tab is reported to replace the “Communities” icon for some users.
With this tab, users can access the AI assistant interface with a single tap. From there, they can pose questions, request assistance, or utilise various AI features without needing to open a conversation first.
Previously, interaction with Meta AI typically occurred through specific chats or by mentioning AI within a conversation. This new system makes the AI feature more discoverable.
The integration of artificial intelligence into WhatsApp continues to evolve. Through Meta AI, users can leverage various features designed to assist with everyday activities within the messaging application.
Users can type questions directly in the Meta AI tab and receive answers quickly. This feature works similarly to AI assistants already available on various digital platforms.
Meta AI also has the capability to help generate creative content. In previous updates, the AI feature has enabled users to create images from text descriptions or obtain suggestions for more engaging message replies.
Some experiments in the beta version suggest that AI will likely assist in analysing and organising conversation history. With this technological support, users can more easily locate specific topics or chats through automatic AI-based grouping.
Currently, the new Meta AI Tab feature is available in the testing phase for Android users participating in the beta programme through Google Play. For users who have not yet seen the feature in their application, it is likely that the update is still being rolled out in stages as part of Meta’s testing process.
The arrival of a dedicated AI tab signals an important shift in WhatsApp’s strategy. Whereas previously the AI feature appeared only as an addition within chats, AI is now being positioned as a central part of the application’s user experience.
