WhatsApp is reportedly preparing a built-in noise cancellation feature directly within the WhatsApp application on smartphones. This feature is designed to improve the quality of voice and video calls and is currently being tested by some users in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android. According to reports from WABetaInfo, the feature is already present in WhatsApp beta version 2.26.14.1. The noise cancellation feature will automatically filter out background sounds during calls, making conversations clearer even in noisy environments. The noise reduction works by detecting and minimising surrounding sounds, such as traffic noise, wind, or crowds. This process occurs in real-time without disrupting the user’s primary voice, ensuring communication remains natural. Users who receive the feature can find it in the call menu, with options to enable or disable the noise cancellation as needed. The feature will be active by default when users initiate voice or video calls, eliminating the need for additional settings or selections. However, the noise cancellation is said to perform better if both the caller and recipient enable it. Currently, the built-in noise cancellation is being released gradually and is not yet available to all users. WhatsApp is expected to expand its availability in the coming weeks.
