WhatsApp Messages Reveal Sexual Harassment Modus by Islamic Boarding School Leader in Sukabumi, Students Invited to Karaoke
Multiple female students allegedly became victims of sexual harassment by an individual leader at an Islamic boarding school in Cikondang Village, Cimahi District, Cicantayan Subdistrict, Sukabumi Regency. The alleged perpetrator’s modus operandi involved kissing the victims and inviting them to night-time karaoke entertainment venues.
Rangga Suria Danuningrat, legal representative for the parents of the victims from LBH Pro Ummat, stated that the alleged sexual harassment case affecting the female students came to light over the past weekend. One victim’s parents discovered text messages on their child’s mobile telephone containing allegations of sexual harassment.
“The incident initially came to light around Saturday and Sunday last week when the parent of one victim, identified as I (aged 16), read the WhatsApp messages on their daughter’s phone containing conversations with a friend,” he said when contacted on Friday (27 February 2026).
He explained that the friend had questioned why the victim rarely gathered with them. It was discovered that the victim avoided meeting with friends because she was traumatised by the alleged treatment from the boarding school leader.
Rangga further stated that the victim mentioned there were other alleged victims of sexual harassment. After the victim’s mother became aware of the conversation contents, she gathered the victims and questioned them about the alleged treatment from the boarding school leader.
He noted that the victim had been forced to stop attending school and decided to pursue an alternative qualification (Paket C). Victim I allegedly experienced sexual harassment approximately three months ago.
“When gathered at home on Sunday, six victims were identified. They have been supporting each other and sharing their experiences,” he said.
