WhatsApp Launches Dedicated Child Account with Parental Controls
WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform, has launched a dedicated child account on a rolling basis. This account will be managed by parents or guardians.
The account is intended for users aged 10–12 years, allowing them to use WhatsApp under special parental supervision and oversight.
The account has been designed with new controls to limit children’s activity when using the application, including when sending messages and making calls.
If messages arrive from unknown numbers, parents can review them and adjust the privacy settings on their child’s account to ensure their safety.
These controls also include group settings, whereby parents can determine which groups are appropriate for their child to join, ensuring better monitoring of their communication activities.
All features can only be modified by parents or guardians using a special PIN known only to them. If children wish to make changes, they must request permission directly from their parents or guardians.
The WhatsApp child account, which is focused solely on exchanging messages and making calls, will prevent access to certain features.
The child’s WhatsApp account is now under the monitoring and control of parents or guardians.
