Jakarta (ANTARA) - WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new subscription service for users of the regular WhatsApp app, named WhatsApp Plus. The subscription service is said to be available for both Android and iOS users with a monthly subscription system. Referring to a post on X @WaBetaInfo, Thursday 5 March, the service is still in development stage and thus has not been released publicly. So far, in its development, WhatsApp Plus will offer several customization options to change the app theme, app icon, and accent colours. This includes a choice of 14 new icons and several colour options for interface elements. The addition will give users greater control over the app’s appearance. The subscription service also offers the option to pin up to 20 chats. The number is up to eight times higher than the current limit of regular WhatsApp which can pin only three chats. This expansion of chat pinning gives users more flexibility to keep important conversations easily accessible. In addition, there will also be exclusive ringtones that are only available to paying customers. Going forward, other features may emerge given the service is still in development. What is clear is that this paid service expands how users can personalise and enhance their experience on the WhatsApp application. If/when released, WhatsApp Plus will be optional and will not require subscribing to use the basic WhatsApp service. Key features such as sending chat messages, video calls, and security and privacy features are ensured to remain accessible to all users without payment. There has been no official confirmation from WhatsApp regarding the subscription price or launch date of this new service.
