What's the Latest on Pegi Setiawan? Two Years After Being Cleared in the Vina Cirebon Case, Here's His Life Now

Two years have passed since the public was gripped by the rape and murder case of Vina and Eky in Cirebon, West Java. The West Java Regional Police had named Pegi Setiawan as a suspect, alleging he was the mastermind behind the 2016 killings. However, after a pretrial hearing, the Bandung District Court granted his lawsuit and revoked his suspect status. The ruling included an order for the West Java Police, as the respondent, to restore Pegi Setiawan’s dignity. “Ordering the respondent to halt the investigation and ordering the respondent to release the applicant and restore his dignity to its original state,” stated Judge Eman Sulaeman while reading the verdict on Monday, 8 July 2024.

Now a free man, Pegi Setiawan is continuing his life. His former attorney, Toni RM, revealed that Pegi is currently pursuing his education by taking a Paket C programme, equivalent to a high school diploma, as he had previously only completed junior secondary school. “Pegi Setiawan is now continuing his education. He only finished junior high school previously, so now he is taking Paket C. I still communicate with him often,” Toni RM said on the Tribun Cirebon YouTube channel.

Beyond his studies, Pegi has also become an active content creator, sharing his daily activities on social media. He now runs a small business selling vegetables near his home in Cirebon and documents his entrepreneurial journey on his TikTok account. “So before starting to sell, I hope the sales are brisk, blessed, and smooth, amen,” he shared on his TikTok account @pegisetiawan96. Before his arrest, Pegi worked as a construction labourer, and he has mentioned that he might return to that work despite his current success as a content creator.
