Jakarta — General (retired) Try Sutrisno, the sixth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, passed away on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Try Sutrisno breathed his last at the Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto in Jakarta at approximately 06:58 Western Indonesian Time.

The death of the former ABRI Commander has been confirmed by retired Lieutenant General TNI Albertus Budi Sulistya, former head of RSPAD.

“That is correct,” said retired Lieutenant General TNI Albertus Budi Sulistya to Kompas.com on Monday.

Following medical procedures, the body was taken to Sunda Kelapa Mosque for funeral prayers before burial. “After that, he will be taken to his residence on Jalan Purwakarta number 6 before being buried at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery,” explained Taufik, Try Sutrisno’s son.

The burial at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery took place on Monday afternoon, 2 March 2026.

Taufik stated that his father’s health had deteriorated due to advanced age, as Try had reached 90 years old. “It was due to age; everything declines at that age. There was no specific serious illness, just the natural decline that comes with such advanced age, including declining respiratory capacity and other functions,” said Taufik.

Medical teams from RSPAD and the presidential office had provided the best available treatment to Try. However, early Monday morning, the family received word that Try’s health had worsened and he had passed away.

“Every effort was made here, but it was simply his time. Alhamdulillah, Father did not suffer from prolonged illness or other complications; it was simply his time due to age,” Taufik said.
