What Will Happen to the Hotel Sultan Building After Its Handover to the State? Here's What PPKGBK Says
The Central Jakarta District Court (PN Jakarta Pusat) has officially handed over the land and buildings of Hotel Sultan to the state. The future use of the hotel’s land and buildings remains under consideration. President Director of the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK), Rakhmadi A. Kusumo, has not yet disclosed the forward plan. He confirmed that the utilisation of Block 15, the former Hotel Sultan site, will be carried out cautiously. “Regarding Block 15, the former Hotel Sultan, in principle PPKGBK welcomes this process of handing over state assets. This is a strategic state asset in the Gelora Bung Karno area, so our initial step is to ensure the process runs well, safely, and in accordance with regulations,” Rakhmadi told reporters on Friday (19/6/2026). Rakhmadi stated that the asset officially handed over to the state will be used in connection with the development of the GBK area. However, the specific future designation was not mentioned. “For future utilisation, it will certainly be done carefully and in a planned manner. The focus is so that this asset can provide the greatest possible benefit for the state, the community, and the development of the GBK area as a sports, public space, MICE, tourism, and productive economic activity zone,” he said. Rakhmadi said his party will coordinate with the Ministry of State Secretariat regarding the use of the land and buildings of the former Hotel Sultan. He assessed that the return of the asset makes the integration of the GBK area even better. “Now we are securing the asset, conducting an inventory and physical inspection of the building’s condition. The next stage will be coordinated with the Ministry of State Secretariat and related parties,” said Rakhmadi. “Meanwhile, with the return of this asset, integration with the area will certainly be better,” he added.
