What Will Be Discussed at Tomorrow's National Consolidation of the Republic Conference?

The national consolidation of the Republic Conference will discuss three main agendas at the University of Indonesia (UI) Salemba campus in Jakarta tomorrow. The civil society coalition under the Republic Conference is holding a national consolidation titled ‘The Path to Reorganising the Republic’ on Sunday morning, 28 June 2026. General Secretary of the Republic Conference Committee, Yanuar Nugroho, said tomorrow’s agenda differs from the Republic Conference events held by civil communities in various cities such as Jakarta, Yogyakarta, or other cities previously. “Tomorrow’s National Consolidation of the Republic Conference will discuss and attempt to agree on three main agendas,” Yanuar told Tempo on Saturday, 27 June 2026. First, tomorrow’s consolidation will discuss the movement’s foundation, such as the values, objectives, and direction of the Republic Conference movement. Second, the national consolidation will also determine the form of the organisation, its network, and its working methods. “Third, we will discuss leadership. Civil networks or coordination still require those willing to work at the forefront and behind the scenes to ensure communication and coordination occur without monopolisation,” Yanuar said. According to Yanuar, those joining the Republic Conference are autonomous civil organisations or nodes. Thus, each already has its own role, but they share common concerns. “Therefore, this Republic Conference does not dissolve them, but rather connects these various organisations or nodes so they can meet, coordinate, support each other, strengthen the movement, share agendas, and more,” he stated. Yanuar also emphasised that the door is not closed for student movements to join. In fact, he said, there are students who have joined the Republic Conference even though they do not represent their student executive bodies. He also invited students to participate in tomorrow’s national consolidation. Tomorrow’s national consolidation is a follow-up to the first Republic Conference held in Yogyakarta on 30 May 2026. The Republic Conference consolidation there was attended by hundreds of civil society organisations, activists, and academics. The conference at Gadjah Mada University produced several key findings. One of them was attention to the difficulties occurring simultaneously in various aspects of the republic’s life. Civil society also took issue with democratic institutions that are far from their representative and oversight functions despite operating formally. According to the Republic Conference, a crisis has occurred and is cross-sectoral, affecting the relationship between citizens and the state.
