What the Ministry of Public Works Is Doing to Prepare for Lebaran Mudik
The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has prepared a number of strategies to ensure the smooth flow of the Lebaran 2026 exodus and return travel, particularly on main routes forecast to experience increased traffic volumes, said Roy Rizali Anwar, Director General of Bina Marga, Ministry of PU.
“The main strategy we are implementing is to ensure all national roads are in solid condition, not pothole-ridden, and all road-side facilities are in good condition so that they are safe and comfortable for travellers,” Anwar said, quoted from Antara, Saturday 7 March 2026.
He said readiness of the national road network is also a key government concern ahead of the Lebaran exodus. He noted the non-tolled national road network spanning 47,603.39 km is currently in good condition with a readiness level of 93.5 percent. Meanwhile, the tolled road network ready to serve the exodus totals 3,115.98 km across various regions of Indonesia.
To anticipate potential disruptions on the exodus routes such as natural disasters or infrastructure damage, the Ministry of Public Works has prepared a Disaster Relief Unit (DRU). The preparations include heavy equipment, materials, and supporting personnel on standby in various regions.
A total of 1,461 units of equipment have been prepared and deployed across Indonesia during the Lebaran 2026 exodus period to speed up response if disruptions occur on national roads. In addition, emergency materials such as Bailey bridges, bronjong (gabions), sandbags, cold-mix asphalt, and other rapid repair materials have also been prepared.
He said the Ministry has prepared 496 mudik posts (posko mudik) across Indonesia to monitor road conditions and provide technical support on the ground. The posts function as coordination centres for monitoring traffic conditions and rapid handling if disruptions occur on the mudik routes.
For the public, the Ministry provides the Microsite Information Lebaran Route accessed via mudik.pu.go.id to obtain the latest information. The information covers national road and toll road conditions, congestion or disaster hotspots, locations of mudik posts, and the available infrastructure services along the Lebaran 2026 mudik routes.
Information services can also be accessed via monitoring apps provided by toll road operators such as Travoy by Jasa Marga and HK Toll Apps by Hutama Karya. In addition, the public can submit complaints about the condition of national roads and toll roads via the “Halo Pak Dody” service channel accessible through the Minister of PU’s Instagram account @dody_hanggodo.
With the readiness of road infrastructure, support from toll tariff discounts, and various strategic steps, Lebaran mudik travel is expected to be smoother, safer, and more comfortable for the public.
