What Might a War Between Washington and Tehran Look Like? Analysts Weigh In
TEHRAN — The next round of war between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran could be more intense than previous confrontations.
The scope for diplomacy is shrinking, while both sides appear increasingly inclined to rely on military force to end the conflict.
According to several analysts, Iran’s continued existence as a state now depends on a military attack long hinted at by Washington.
US President Donald Trump said his country had performed well in confronting Iran. In a statement last night, Trump said: “We are just about to make the final decision on how we want to achieve victory.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, meanwhile, said a political solution with Tehran was no longer possible.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking during a meeting with Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir, said Washington must first lift its pressure, threats and sanctions before the two sides could begin negotiations.
Statements by US officials indicate a clear intention to return to war.
Tim Constantine, deputy editor-in-chief of The Washington Times, said the Trump administration as a whole no longer believes in the negotiating track.
