What is the Cause of the Hajj Flight Cost Increase for 2026 by Rp 1.77 Trillion?
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Minister of Hajj and Umrah (Menhaj), Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, has revealed that the Hajj flight costs for 2026 or 1447 Hijriah will increase by Rp 1.77 trillion.
The increase in flight costs was explained to Commission VIII of the DPR for approval on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
“We hope that at this working meeting with Commission VIII of the DPR RI, it can be approved and decided regarding the amount and source of funding to meet the adjustment of these costs,” said Irfan during the working meeting with Commission VIII of the DPR at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday.
In addition to avtur prices, currency value fluctuations are also a cause of the significant increase in Hajj costs for 2026.
Garuda Indonesia, revealed Irfan, proposed an increase of up to Rp 974.8 billion. Meanwhile, Rp 802.8 billion was submitted by Saudi Airlines.
“In aggregate, the total costs have jumped from Rp 6.69 trillion to Rp 8.46 trillion, or an increase of Rp 1.77 trillion,” said Irfan.
The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has also been involved by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) to ensure the legality of the funding source.
“Currently, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is coordinating with the Attorney General’s Office and related parties to ensure the force majeure status and the legality of the funding source,” said Irfan.
Meanwhile, flight costs for kloter officials are sourced from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).
“Indeed, as asked by the Chairman earlier, there are several alternatives, all ready; we just need to see how our coordination with the Attorney General’s Office goes regarding the status and legality of the funding source,” explained Irfan.
“Alhamdulillah, the President has emphasised that this cost surge should not be burdened on the pilgrims,” said Irfan.
