What is Known About the LRT Jabodebek Suddenly Losing Power in Cawang
The Jabodebek LRT came to a sudden stop at Cawang Station, prompting PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to apologise and explain the incident.
The LRT stopped on Wednesday (22 July 2026) at 07:43 Western Indonesia Time. Officers then inspected the halted train at Cawang Station.
“PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) conveys its apologies for the disruption to the Jabodebek LRT journey affecting one of its trains on Wednesday (22 July) at 07:43 WIB. Officers are currently inspecting the train at Cawang Station,” said Radhitya Mardika, Manager of Public Relations for the Jabodebek LRT, in a statement.
For safety reasons, passengers were asked to leave the train. They were then directed to disembark at Cawang Station and continue their journey on the next service.
“To safeguard the journey, officers directed passengers to move to the next train at Cawang Station. All officers on the ground were deployed to assist passengers during the transfer process,” he said.
Causing Delays
He said the incident caused a delay of around ten minutes. The Jabodebek LRT has since returned to normal operations.
“KAI apologises for the inconvenience caused by this disruption. Passengers are urged to follow the instructions of officers on the ground and to obtain the latest information through the official Jabodebek LRT channels,” he added.
Passenger Hears Loud Noise
Riana Evira, a Jabodebek LRT passenger, said she heard a loud noise coming from beneath the carriage before the train came to a sudden stop at Cawang Station. The sound occurred shortly before the LRT halted.
“I was on the Bekasi line LRT departing from Halim Station towards Cawang. Halfway along the route there was a loud noise, seemingly from beneath the carriage,” said Riana when contacted on Wednesday (22 July).
Riana said that afterwards the air-conditioning and some of the lights went off. She said the train’s engine went silent.
“After that, the air-conditioning and some lights went off, and the train’s engine also seemed to fall silent. Fortunately the train kept moving until it reached Cawang LRT Station,” she said.
Passengers Disembark
Upon arriving at Cawang Station, she heard another loud noise. The LRT doors were open at the time and passengers immediately exited.
“We arrived at Cawang LRT at 07:43 WIB and the doors opened; most passengers stayed inside the train. Then there was a second loud bang, and all the passengers got out,” she said.
The disembarking passengers then continued their journey on the next train.
“After the train emptied and the doors closed, we waited less than fifteen minutes before the next train arrived,” she added.
