What is known about the Jakarta Bapenda building catching fire again
The Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) building caught fire again yesterday. This is the second time the building has been hit by a blaze.
Previously, the Bapenda DKI Jakarta building was struck by a fire on Friday (7/8), two weeks ago. At that time, the fire spread from the 11th to the 16th floor.
The latest fire was reported to the fire brigade on Friday (21/8) at 5.10 pm Western Indonesia Time. Here are the details known about the Bapenda DKI building being hit by fire once again.
- Fire source: 11th floor archive room
The Bapenda Jakarta building, located on Jalan Abdul Muis, RT 04 RW 03, Petojo Selatan Urban Village, Gambir District, Central Jakarta, caught fire on Friday (21/8/2026). Firefighting operations began at 5.20 pm Western Indonesia Time.
According to data from the Command Center of the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), the object that burned was the archive room on the 11th floor of the building. The fire started at 5.10 pm Western Indonesia Time.
“Object: Bapenda building, 11th floor archive room,” said the DKI Jakarta Fire Brigade Command Center.
- Fire has been extinguished
The fire at the Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) building has been extinguished. According to monitoring by detikcom at the location on Friday (21/8/2026) at 9.55 pm Western Indonesia Time, the flames at the Bapenda DKI building had been put out.
No activity from building security guards or firefighters was visible at the scene.
- Residents saw smoke from the lobby
Residents said they only saw smoke from the fire at the Bapenda DKI building around the lobby area, but did not know where the flames originated. Keti (65), a resident at the location, said the fire had been ongoing since around 5.00 pm, but she did not see any flames.
“Many residents were watching from across the street earlier. I think the fire started around 5 pm. I didn’t see any flames, just smoke in the lobby,” said Keti when met.
Keti said firefighters remained at the location until around 9.00 pm Western Indonesia Time. According to her, the fire brigade arrived within minutes of smoke billowing in the lobby.
“The fire brigade arrived quickly that afternoon,” said Keti.
Another resident, Wiwin (47), also said she only saw smoke. She did not know where the flames originated.
“I didn’t see any flames, just smoke. Because it wasn’t big, I just carried on hanging out here near the Bapenda gate. It was different from two weeks ago — I panicked then, because it’s next to a petrol station,” said Wiwin.
- Fire caused by high temperatures
Smoke was seen billowing from the Bapenda DKI Jakarta building today. The Central Jakarta Fire Brigade said the flames that appeared at the Bapenda building were caused by high temperatures.
“A small ignition, due to the hot temperature,” said Triyanto, Head of Operations at the Central Jakarta Fire Brigade, to journalists on Friday (21/8/2026).
Monitoring at the location as of 9.55 pm Western Indonesia Time showed smoke was no longer visible. Fire engines at the location had also left.
- Bapenda DKI building cordoned off with police line
The Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) building was hit by fire again on Friday 21 August. Police line remains in place around the building area located on Jalan Abdul Muis, Central Jakarta.
According to monitoring by detikcom at the location on Saturday (22/8/2026), the main gate of the building was still tightly closed and marked with police line. No office activity was visible inside the building area.
Remnants of fire material in the form of debris were still scattered in the front yard of the building. It is known that the building has not operated normally since the first fire on Friday (7/8).
A notice board at the gate informed that all correspondence matters have now been transferred digitally. Starting from 10 August 2026, letters addressed to the Head of the Bapenda of DKI Jakarta Province can only be submitted via electronic mail or email.
