What is Known About Allegations of Sexual Harassment in FHUI Student Group Chat
A conversation with tones of sexual harassment in a group chat of students from the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law (FHUI) has gone viral on social media. The case is currently under investigation.
As compiled by detikcom on Tuesday (14/4/2026), the case began with the circulation of a screenshot from a group chat containing lewd conversations allegedly involving FHUI students. In the group, they made suggestive remarks about other female students.
From the Instagram account of the Faculty of Law UI (@fakultashukumui), it is stated that the faculty has received reports regarding the group chat. The faculty strongly condemns such actions.
“The Faculty strongly condemns all forms of behaviour that degrade human dignity and contradict the values of law and academic ethics,” stated the Faculty of Law UI.
Rector of UI Speaks Out
UI Rector Heri Hermansyah has spoken out regarding the uproar. He assured that he will monitor the progress of the case at the Faculty of Law UI.
“I just heard about it last night, and I’ve already asked the dean for a response. But I’ve also seen in various media that the Dean of the Faculty of Law has responded. So, the directorate will monitor how it’s handled at the faculty. Let’s all monitor it together, let’s fight sexual harassment,” said Heri.
FHUI Takes Action
The Faculty of Law UI has received reports of the viral case involving the content of student group chat conversations with tones of sexual harassment. The FHUI is beginning to investigate the case.
“On 12 April 2026, the Faculty received a report regarding alleged violations of the code of ethics that also potentially contain criminal elements, related to the activities of some students. Based on the report, the Faculty learned of the circulation of screenshots of conversations allegedly involving students and containing inappropriate content, including indications of sexual violence,” stated the Faculty of Law UI via its Instagram account as seen on Monday (13/4).
The FHUI strongly condemns all forms of behaviour that degrade human dignity and contradict the values of law and academic ethics. The investigation into the alleged sexual harassment in the group is being pursued seriously.
“Currently, the Faculty is conducting a serious, careful, and thorough investigation and verification. This process is carried out upholding the principles of prudence and justice,” it emphasised.
If violations are found, the FHUI will take firm action. The Faculty of Law UI will also coordinate with the relevant authorities if criminal acts are identified.
“The Faculty emphasises that the safety and comfort of the entire academic community is the top priority. Safe reporting channels and necessary support are available for those in need. For this purpose, contact the Faculty’s Student and Alumni Manager as the point of contact,” it added.
The Faculty of Law UI also invites all parties to refrain from disseminating unverified information and to respect the ongoing process.
