What is 24 April 2026 Commemorating? Transport Day and Others
The date of 24 April 2026 is commemorated as several important moments celebrated both nationally and internationally. In Indonesia, the date is observed as Public Transport Day or National Transport Day.
Additionally, there is the commemoration of Asia-Africa Solidarity Day. Meanwhile, globally, citing National Today and Days of The Year, 24 April also marks the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace up to World Women’s Wellness Day. Here is an explanation of each.
National Transport Day
This day is commemorated every 24 April in relation to the importance of the role of transportation in people’s lives. Its history is marked by, among others, the establishment of DAMRI in 1943. This transformation continues, including improvements in services and modern fleets, so that public transport remains relevant in meeting society’s needs.
Special Rp1 Fare for Transum in Jakarta
In commemoration of Transport Day, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will implement a special Rp1 fare for public transport services (transum) such as TransJakarta, MRT, and KRL on Friday, 24 April 2026. This programme is part of efforts to increase public interest in switching to more efficient and environmentally friendly public transport.
“Switching to public transport helps reduce congestion and air pollution. In addition, it is more cost-effective, time-saving, and energy-efficient, as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle,” said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung on Thursday (23/4/2026).
Asia-Africa Solidarity Day
The date 24 April also marks the commemoration of Asia-Africa Solidarity Day. This day is closely related to the history of the Asia-Africa Conference (KAA), which was driven by the spirit of shared destiny among Asian and African countries after World War II, seeking to build solidarity to escape colonialism and fight for the independence and sovereignty of each nation.
The KAA itself was held in Bandung from 18-24 April 1955 and attended by 29 countries. In this forum, the leaders of the countries discussed various important issues, from economic and cultural cooperation to human rights and world peace. The results of the conference were then formulated in the Bandung Ten Principles, which serve as a guide in building peaceful and equal international relations.
International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace
The International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace is commemorated globally every 24 April. Citing National Today and Days of The Year, this commemoration emphasises the importance of cooperation among countries in resolving various global issues through dialogue and diplomacy, not conflict.
Multilateralism itself refers to cooperation involving many countries in one forum or international organisation. This commemoration serves as a reminder that global challenges such as conflicts, climate change, and humanitarian crises require collective solutions involving various parties on an equal basis.
World Women’s Wellness Day
World Women’s Wellness Day is also commemorated on 24 April as a form of attention to the importance of women’s health. Citing National Today and Days of The Year, this commemoration aims to raise awareness of health issues faced by women, both physically and mentally.
In addition, this moment also encourages women to be more attentive to their health through healthy living patterns, routine check-ups, and adequate access to health services. Support from the environment and policies that favour women’s health also play an important part in realising broader welfare.
