What Happens Immediately After a Deceased Person is Buried

JAKARTA — What is the condition of a person immediately after death and their body is buried? Amongst the public, various myths emerge about this matter. However, the true answer lies in Islamic teachings.

According to reports from Elbalad, Islamic scholars explain the condition of the deceased after death and following burial. At that time, the deceased exists in the realm of barzakh until the time of the Day of Judgment arrives.

Allah Most High says: “Alas! I wish I had sent forward (good deeds) for my life to come! But none will punish as He will punish, and none will bind as He will bind” (Qur’an 23:100).

The realm of barzakh is part of the afterlife, as it is the realm between this world and the hereafter. It is called barzakh because it is a divider or pathway that separates two places.

There are five matters that a person will face five minutes after death, with the first beginning immediately after burial.

The deceased’s body will unite with the earth, as the primary material of human creation. The person will also feel loneliness.

They will experience a strange condition in the grave. Everyone will face such a condition, whether believer or non-believer.
