Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has assured that the implementation of the Work From Home (WFH) policy will not disrupt state finances. The reason is that the days selected for WFH are chosen carefully, without affecting productivity.

In addition, Purbaya stated that WFH will not apply to public services or factories that need to maintain production on those days.

“(WFH will be implemented) on Fridays. So there will certainly be savings on fuel, I don’t know the exact percentage because it can vary depending on oil prices. But for productivity, factories and others that require continuous work don’t have to (implement it). Public services will continue as usual. So it shouldn’t be a problem if it’s just one day. Our overall productivity won’t be too disrupted,” he told the media at the State Palace on Friday (27/3/2026).

Previously, Purbaya revealed that the government’s WFH policy could have a positive effect on the Indonesian economy.

He mentioned that the policy, aimed at managing fuel consumption amid disruptions to global crude oil supplies due to conflicts in the Middle East, has the potential to save up to 20% of fuel demand. However, it also has other consumption-boosting effects.

The economic boost will occur if the WFH policy, to be announced soon by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, is set for every Friday, as the impact on productivity pressure will be minimal.

Purbaya said that the plan for this WFH implementation policy was discussed in a virtual meeting led by Coordinating Minister Airlangga yesterday. The meeting was also attended by Interior Minister Tito Karnavian, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Investment Minister/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
