The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) provincial government has confirmed the implementation of a Work From Home (WFH) system every Friday starting this week. The policy targets civil servants (ASN) in service sectors that are already digitally based.

Head of the Regional Personnel Agency (BKD) NTB, Tri Budi Prayitno, stated that the governor’s circular (SE) regarding the policy is scheduled to be signed on Wednesday (8/4/2026). Prior to signing, the provisions in the SE will be discussed on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

“Tomorrow it will be discussed in a meeting; certainly, the Organisation Bureau is preparing the governor’s circular related to the WFH implementation pattern in the NTB provincial government,” said Yiyit, his nickname, on Monday (6/4/2026).

According to Yiyit, the WFH policy only applies to ASN working in services that have been digitised, allowing work to be done from home.

“It is possible for those that have been digitised, but for those that are not yet possible, they will not be subject to WFH. This is being carefully drafted,” he said.

Meanwhile, educators under the NTB provincial government are confirmed not to be included in the Friday WFH scheme. This is because school teaching hours must not be reduced.

“So essentially, WFH means working from home, not as an addition to holiday time,” he stressed.

Anticipating Long Weekends

The NTB provincial government emphasises that the Friday WFH policy is not intended to create long weekend holidays. The rhythm and work patterns of ASN will still be controlled even when working from home.

“We are trying to avoid that. So it’s not as an addition to holiday time; it is ensured that for those receiving the WFH work pattern, they are indeed working from home,” Yiyit stressed.

To support the policy, the NTB provincial government ensures the readiness of ASN work equipment, from communication tools to other supporting systems, so that work continues optimally from home.

“Regarding sanctions, they still exist; even though from home, the attendance pattern is also there. Even how, whether there is direct contact from superiors to the individual, that is also being drafted,” he said.

Yiyit added that the implementation of Friday WFH will be carried out meticulously, from work patterns, attendance systems, to efficiency calculations, especially in reducing fuel oil (BBM) usage.

“It must first be ensured that there is efficiency. Second, public services must not be reduced. Third, performance must still be measurable and achievable. Then, work discipline must also be maintained,” he stressed.

He emphasised that the balance between productivity and work discipline is key in implementing this policy. Public services are also ensured not to be disrupted during WFH implementation.

“The main goal is efficiency. For ASN supervision, we are also drafting the technicalities using a GPS system,” he said.

Nevertheless, the NTB provincial government has not detailed the number of ASN or sectors that will implement Friday WFH. Data collection is still being conducted by the Organisation Bureau of the Regional Secretariat NTB.

“We at BKD will ensure the performance later. What the performance is like, and what the productivity is like. So, for attendance, there is already a WFH attendance pattern; the menu is already there,” Yiyit concluded.
