JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The work-from-home (WFH) policy has once again demonstrated its tangible impact on traffic conditions in Jakarta. On the morning of Friday (17/4/2026), vehicle flow in the capital was observed to be smoother than on usual working days.

The Head of Operational Traffic Management at the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate, Kompol Robby Hefados, stated that this smoothness is inseparable from the implementation of WFH by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

“This is due to the enforcement of WFH by the DKI Provincial Government. WFH for civil servants and private sector employees,” said Robby to Kompas.com (17/4/2026).

Interestingly, the relatively smoother traffic conditions not only occurred in the morning but are also claimed to continue into the afternoon and evening.

“(Mostly) only people leaving shopping centres and sports facilities,” Robby remarked.

For information, the implementation of the WFH work system refers to Circular Letter (SE) of the DKI Jakarta Regional Secretary Number 34 of 2023 concerning the Performance of Official Duties from Home (WFH).

This phenomenon once again confirms that regulating work patterns has a significant impact on urban traffic.

With fewer vehicles on the roads, the potential for congestion can be reduced, while also providing an alternative short-term solution to ease density in Jakarta.
