Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate (Dirlantas Polda Metro Jaya) states that the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) has proven effective in reducing traffic density, particularly in areas typically prone to congestion bottlenecks.

“Indeed, today we can see a quite significant difference in the volume of vehicles used by the public taking advantage of this WFH policy, as observed from the traffic flow monitoring,” said Kombes Pol Komarudin of the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate in Jakarta on Friday.

This was stated by Komarudin, who had been monitoring the situation on the ground from the morning until around 09:20 WIB. He also noted that Jakarta was smoother today on several road sections, such as Sudirman from south to north, and then north to south.

“Then there are several other road sections like Asia Afrika, Gerbang Pemuda, which usually experience long queues at the Ladokgi overpass until this hour, including access into Jakarta from west to east, which appears busy but without significant density,” he said.

Komarudin added that density at usual congestion points like Semanggi was not excessively tailing; it was indeed dense, but the queues were not too long.

Nevertheless, Komarudin mentioned that some road sections remained dense and were not significantly affected by the WFH policy, namely from the west, Slipi to the east towards Semanggi, caused by crossing factors (situations where vehicle flows from one direction intersect directly or cross lanes from another direction).

“We know that there is an off-ramp from the toll road exiting to Semanggi that crosses with the TransJakarta lane, then also crosses with the arterial from Slipi towards Semanggi. Additionally, there are crossings with small roads from Benhil. Also including crossings from Semanggi to Sudirman, from Benhil towards Cawang; these are among the causes,” said Komarudin.

Komarudin added that the overall traffic situation with the WFH implementation today around Jakarta roads was smoother, except for the density in vehicle volume alone.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has signed Circular Letter (SE) Number 3/SE/2026 regarding the implementation of working from home or work from home (WFH) every Friday.

The circular specifies that the proportion of ASN employees who can carry out WFH is at least 25 per cent or at most 50 per cent of the total ASN employees in the smallest work unit/subdivision/section/subgroup, done selectively considering the characteristics of tasks and types of work in each unit.

“For work from home or work from everywhere actually, as Governor I have already signed the SE. So for each regional device organisation (OPD), the range is between 25 to 50 per cent who do work from home,” explained Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.

The circular also states that employees eligible for WFH must meet criteria, namely not currently undergoing or in the process of disciplinary punishment, and/or having more than two years of service.

Employees carrying out WFH are required to report their presence online through the mobile attendance application twice, at 06:00-08:00 WIB and 16:00-18:00 WIB.
