The government has officially extended the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) by one day per week from August until the end of September 2026. The decision was made following an evaluation of the implementation of the new work culture movement over the past two months.

The extension was announced by the Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom RI), Muhammad Qodari. He stated that the policy is part of an effort to build a more adaptive work culture, accelerate bureaucratic digitalisation, and improve efficiency in governance.

“The government is extending the implementation of WFH for civil servants by one day per week from August until the end of September 2026. This decision was taken after evaluating the implementation of the new work culture movement and is part of an effort to build a more adaptive work culture, accelerate bureaucratic digitalisation, and increase efficiency,” Qodari said in a statement on Tuesday (4/8).

Public Services Guaranteed to Continue

The government has guaranteed that the extension of the WFH policy will not disrupt public services. All services that directly interact with the public will continue to operate normally throughout the policy period.

Services confirmed to remain fully operational include:

  • Health services

  • Education services

  • Civil administration

  • Licensing

  • Public Service Malls

According to Qodari, each agency is given the authority to manage the WFH mechanism according to the characteristics of its tasks and service needs, so that the quality of public service is maintained.

WFH Becomes Part of Flexible Working Patterns for ASN

Qodari explained that the WFH policy is not a new regulation. Flexible working patterns for civil servants already have a clear legal basis, namely Presidential Regulation Number 21 of 2023 concerning Working Days and Working Hours of Government Agencies and Civil Servants, and Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Regulation Number 4 of 2025 concerning the Implementation of Flexible Official Duties for Civil Servants in Government Agencies.

He stressed that the government does not view WFH merely as a change in work location, but as part of a transformation of bureaucratic work culture.

“WFH is one form of implementing flexible working patterns for ASN. For the government, this policy is not just about changing the location of work, but about building a work culture that is more adaptive and remains results-oriented,” Qodari said.
