WFH for Civil Servants: Golden Opportunity for the Revival of Flexible Workspaces

The implementation of a national hybrid work policy, effective from 1 April 2026, is beginning to transform the landscape of office property needs in Indonesia. This policy is spurring an increase in demand for flexible workspaces as work patterns shift in both the public and private sectors. The foundation of this policy is set out in two government circulars dated 31 March 2026. The regulation requires Civil Servants (ASN) to work from home (WFH) every Friday. Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that this policy has the potential to generate savings of up to Rp 6.2 trillion, particularly through reduced fuel consumption and national energy efficiency. In addition to economic impacts, this step is part of transforming work culture to be more adaptive to urban mobility. A JLL report shows significant growth in the absorption of flexible workspaces in Jakarta. This trend aligns with global research predicting that the proportion of modular workspace usage will continue to rise until the end of the decade. Companies are now tending to choose efficiency strategies by no longer fully relying on conventional head offices. Pos Properti Indonesia, through its business unit Point Lab, is responding to this development as an opportunity to strengthen the modern work ecosystem. Chief Business Development & Hospitality Officer of Pos Properti Indonesia, Endro Tjahjono, assessed that hybrid work creates a need for workspaces between home and the main office. “Hybrid work creates a need for workspaces between home and the main office. This becomes an opportunity for coworking spaces to emerge as solutions that remain productive yet flexible,” said Endro. In Jakarta, demand for flexible workspaces is dominated by strategic locations in business centres.
