WFH for Civil Servants Every Friday Officially Takes Effect Today
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Work from home (WFH) for one day per week for civil servants (ASN) officially takes effect starting Friday (10/4/2026). This flexible work policy is newly implemented, as Friday (3/4/2026) is a public holiday commemorating the death of Jesus Christ. The implementation of WFH for ASN every Friday is one of the government’s policies to save costs or achieve efficiency, particularly related to energy following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East. He stated that the four-day work week policy has also been implemented in several ministries and agencies during the Covid-19 pandemic. Airlangga also emphasised that public services will continue to operate despite the WFH policy every Friday. “Public services will continue to run, and productive activities including banking, capital markets, and others will continue to operate. Those in the offices are permitted to arrange it with certain applications,” said Airlangga. This affirmation was conveyed by the Ministry of PANRB through a post on its official Instagram account @kemenpanrb. “WFH Is Not a Holiday: ASN are required to report performance results and remain under the supervision of leaders,” reads the caption in the @kemenpanrb post, quoted on Thursday (2/4/2026). In that post, it is explained that Minister of PANRB Rini Widyantini has issued Circular Letter of the Minister of PANRB Number 3 of 2026 concerning the Implementation of Official Duties for ASN Employees in Government Agencies. “New Work Scheme: implementation of 4 days work from office (Monday-Thursday) and 1 day work from home (Friday),” reads the Ministry of PANRB post. The Ministry of PANRB also emphasised that WFH every Friday by ASN must be carried out at home, residence, or domicile. Rini explained that this adjustment serves as a guide for government agencies in regulating the implementation of official duties for ASN in a more flexible manner while prioritising organisational performance.
