The government has established the Work Culture Transformation and Energy Efficiency Policy, effective from 1 April 2026, one of whose provisions regulates a work-from-home (WFH) scheme for one day per week, namely every Friday.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Kamaruddin Amin, emphasised that the essence of this policy is a transformation of work culture that is more adaptive yet still controlled.

To that end, civil servants at the Ministry of Religious Affairs are urged to maintain their work rhythm and professionalism.

“It must be underlined that this WFH is not work from anywhere. This means that employees truly work from home with standby status,” said Kamaruddin Amin when confirmed from Jakarta on Wednesday.

Every direct superior is asked to prepare a structured work pattern for their staff, so that work output remains measurable even without physical face-to-face interactions.

“It is ensured that all staff’s mobile phones must be active. When contacted by superiors, they must be ready. There is no excuse for not responding on the grounds of being on WFH. This digital discipline is the key to the success of the new work pattern going forward,” he said.

Teddy explained that the current situation is driving changes in work culture and societal energy consumption patterns to be more efficient, productive, and adaptive to the times.
