Westin to enter Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): Westin Hotels and Resorts, a hotel management
firm based in the United States, will sign next Tuesday an
agreement with PT Wisma Kartika to manage a five-star hotel in
Jakarta.

Westin's director of advertising and public relations for the
Asia-Pacific region, Nelli Yong, said yesterday that the planned
five-star hotel will be built later this year on the site of the
Hotel Kartika Plaza on Jl. Thamrin.

"Kartika Plaza, which is owned by Wisma Kartika, will be
destroyed. The new hotel, called the Westin Jakarta, will offer
520 rooms," she said, adding that negotiations between the two
companies began several years ago.

Westin, running 80 hotels worldwide, is currently preparing
the grand opening of the Westin Surabaya, its first hotel in
Indonesia, which is located in Surabaya, East Java. (icn)
